America
Salzburg State Theater
Description
Experience Kafka's fascinating emigration story and anti-Bildungsroman about social decline and the search for happiness in the New World.
Franz Kafka's "Amerika" will premiere on March 20, 2026, at the Salzburg State Theater. The novel tells the story of Karl Rossmann, a 16-year-old who is sent to America by his parents to seek his fortune. Instead of a successful career, Karl experiences a series of hopeless situations, marked by his gullibility and the harshness of his environment. "Amerika" is both an emigrant story and an anti-Bildungsroman that humorously and sarcastically dissects the American dream. Georg Schmiedleitner is directing, Stefan Brandtmayr is designing the stage, and Su Bühler is designing the costumes.
